ABOUT THE RUN
After the challenges presented to our event in 2020 where we responded by holding our first ever virtual run, we held a 2021 event with limited in-person participation and will continue our virtual run as a permanent option for registration. If our country, state, county and city maintain the ability to move forward, we hope to have a full-blown, 5k running, ice cream eating 2022 Blue Bell Fun Run.
Started in 1978, this race began to benefit the Brenham High School Athletic program and did so for many years. Today, the run serves a broader community by fostering the physical health of and instilling good character in the youth of Washington County. Run for the Youth of Washington County sponsors events like the Blue Bell Fun Run, and conducts and provides charitable and other non-profit programs and activities in Washington County. Brenham High School athletes serve as volunteers for the race.
The course starts and finishes at Brenham High School on FM 2935 off of Loop 577 on the north side of town in scenic and historic Washington County. The Trestle Trail guides runners down paved, winding roads taking you through Brenham’s beautiful countryside — rolling hills covered in Bluebonnets.
It’s fun for kids and adults alike with individual and team events in both the 5K and 10K. And for those that desire an even greater challenge, a HALF MARATHON route is part of our already event schedule (limited spots available). Even the friends and family that are on hand to support the runners get the Blue Bell Ice Cream!
